Today is Monday (August 26) the birth anniversary and auspicious Janmashtami of Lord Krishna, the worshiper of Sanatan Hindu community. On this occasion, the Hindu community of the country will celebrate Janmashtami with religious solemnity and joy.
According to Hindu mythology, Lord Krishna was born on the eighth tithi of Shuklapaksha in the month of Bhadra. According to Sanatana religionists, when brute forces rose to devour justice, truth and beauty, Lord Krishna of the Mahavatar appeared to subdue that force and establish the welfare and justice of mankind. In their further belief, this is how God came down to man through the ages to subdue the evil and establish the true and the beautiful.
On the occasion of Janmashtami, various social, cultural and religious organizations including Bangladesh Puja Udyapan Parishad and International Society of Krishna Consciousness ISKCON have taken extensive programs. Today is a public holiday on the occasion of Janmashtami. Special programs will be broadcast on Bangladesh Betar, television and private satellite channels.
On the occasion of auspicious Janmashtami, the Metropolitan Public Puja Committee has taken up the program centrally at Dhakeshwari National Temple.
