How do you feel about starting the year with a fight in Guatemala?

I am very excited to participate in the 17th fight of my career and very happy to fight again in my land, Guatemala, where my people are.

The fight will be next Friday February 23, when Lester enters the ring again in his third match on Guatemalan soil. Martínez’s fight will be the star in a billboard organized by the promoter Apex Boxing and that will be held starting at 7:00 pm at the Industry Park.

How have you prepared for this fight?

Before each fight the preparation is very good and takes a lot of work and this time was no exception. I prepared in the United States with my team and yes I have spent many days in pain but it will be for something worth it; I come very well prepared for this fight.

On this occasion, Lester’s rival will be the Colombian Rubén Angulo, 25 years old, who arrives with a professional record of 11 victories – 5 knockouts -, 8 defeats and 2 draws. His last fight was on November 12, when he defeated his compatriot Cristian Escobar by technical knockout.

The Latin Super Middleweight title of the World Boxing Council (WBC) will be at stake, does that generate more pressure?

He had already won this title before, but it was left vacant since he had not had the opportunity to defend it. For me, having the opportunity to fight for him again is something very exciting and motivating. Although it will put a little pressure on me, it is something that will be very rewarding and will serve as a springboard for my career.

Martínez had already fought twice before in Guatemala. The first was his debut against the former world champion, the Nicaraguan Ricardo Mayorga, which took place on April 6, 2019. The second was on July 27 of the same year, against the Costa Rican Roy Fernández. He won both fights by technical knockout.

After this fight, what will your 2024 season be like?

At 28 years old, Lester Martínez has consolidated his professional career, accumulating an undefeated record of 16 victories and 14 knockouts. In 2023, he had the opportunity to fight two fights, both in the United States and one of them was his long-awaited debut in Las Vegas, where he defeated Isaiah Steen.
