Harbhajan Singh has opened up about the rape and murder of a young woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. In the caption of the opening letter, he wrote, ‘I am outraged by the delay in proper investigation and justice in the murders after the Kolkata rape. It is an event that has shaken the conscience of all of us. So I felt compelled to write an open letter to the Chief Minister of West Bengal. I request Mamata Banaji ji and Hon’ble Governor to take a quick, intelligent and judicious decision in this matter.’

“The safety and dignity of women is a matter of non-compromise. The criminals involved in this incident must face the rule of law. Their punishment should be exemplary. Only then will people’s confidence in our system begin to return. Also, it should be ensured that such incidents do not recur. We need to build a society where women feel safe and secure. We should ask ourselves if the society is not established now, when will it be? I think the time has come to do so.’
