Punnol (Kannur): Police say political animosity is behind the brutal murder of a CPM activist in Punnol. Haridasan (54), a fisherman, was killed at Sreemuthappan’s house in Thazhekkuni, Punnol Thazhevayal Koram, around 1.30 am on Monday. Police have arrested four BJP activists, including K Lijesh (37), a Thalassery municipal councilor and BJP Thalassery constituency president, at his Sreesankaranelloor home in Kommalvayal, Thalassery, on charges of conspiracy in the case.

RSS Khand Karyawah Punnol KV The other accused arrested are KV Vimin (26) of the house, Amal Manoharan (26) of Punnol Devikrupa, branch headmaster and M Sunesh alias Mani (39) of Sunesh Nivas, Gopalpet, Thalassery. Police believe that Sunesh, who went to work with Haridas on the day of the incident, gave the information to the attackers. Police suspect that the four-member gang carried out the shooting directly. The four arrested were produced in the Thalassery court. They were remanded.
