New Delhi: On Sunday, the first day of the Hockey India League (HIL) auction, Indian men’s team captain Harmanpreet Singh became the most expensive player while Soorma Hockey Club bought the star drag-flicker for Rs 78 lakh. All eight franchises spent huge sums to acquire the services of key players of the Indian men’s hockey team.

Abhishek became the second most expensive player, bought by Shrachi Radh Bengal Tigers for Rs 72 lakh while UP Rudras spent Rs 70 lakh for Hardik Singh. Tamil Nadu Dragons made the highest bid of Rs 48 lakh for Amit Rohidas while Jugraj Singh was also bought by Bengal Tigers for the same amount. Hyderabad Storms added Sumit for Rs 46 lakh. Indian goalkeepers Suraj Karkera and Pawan were bought by Team Gonasika and Delhi SG Pipers for Rs 22 lakh and Rs 15 lakh respectively.
