US Vice President Kamala Harris has secured enough Democratic delegates to secure the nomination for the US presidential election.

Media data showed Harris had 2,471 delegates, more than the simple majority needed to win the nomination on the first ballot.

It is noteworthy that to win the nomination for the presidential elections from the Democratic Party, 1976 votes must be obtained.

CNN reported that Harris had received the support of enough Democratic delegates to become the party’s nominee.

The US Vice President said in a statement yesterday, Monday, that she was “proud to have received the support of a sufficient number of Democratic delegates to win her party’s nomination for president.”

“I look forward to formally accepting the nomination soon,” she added.

“I fully intend to unite our party and our nation and defeat Donald Trump in November,” she added.

Harris had attacked Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in a speech during her campaign rally in Delaware on Monday.

US President Joe Biden announced last Sunday that he was stepping down from the upcoming presidential race in November and would focus on his duties as president until the end of his term.

Biden expressed his support for Kamala Harris’ nomination to run for the Democratic Party.
