U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate, said on the 13th (local time), “Americans know very well that they want a leader who can bring us together, and not a leader who can point fingers at each other.”

Harris made the remarks in her first exclusive interview with ABC affiliates in Pennsylvania.

The phrase “a leader who makes people point fingers at each other” is interpreted as targeting former President Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate.

“Based on real-life experience, I know in my heart that most Americans have far more in common than what separates us,” he argued.

Harris was interviewed alongside her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, late last month, but this is her first solo interview.

In her interview that day, candidate Harris said that her economic pledges include expanding tax deductions for small business startups and providing down payment assistance to first-time homebuyers.

“When we talk about building an opportunity economy, it’s really important to invest in the ambition and the aspirations of Americans, the incredible work ethic, and to give them the opportunity to start small businesses,” he said.

In the interview that day, Harris also addressed the gun issue.

“I’m a gun owner, Walz is a gun owner, and we’re not going to take anyone’s guns away,” Harris said. “I support the Second Amendment and I support reasonable gun safety laws.”

However, Harris said, “I feel very strongly that arguing for a ban on assault weapons is consistent with the Second Amendment.”

“Assault weapons are literally instruments of war,” he said. “We need universal background checks to curb gun violence. Members of the National Rifle Association support this, too. It makes sense.”

Meanwhile, candidate Harris held a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, one of the battleground states for the US presidential election.

He said during the rally that if elected, he would “lower the college degree requirement” for federal jobs.

Harris said she would “eliminate unnecessary degree requirements for federal jobs” and would push for the private sector to do the same.
