Harris to announce four-year plan to lower housing costs
Harris plans to announce the plan as part of a broader discussion about economic policy in North Carolina. As CNN has previously reported, the vice president will also announce a proposal for a federal ban on price speculation aimed at reducing food costs.
Campaign officials also said she plans to address drug prices in her policy presentation Friday. That had been the topic of a Thursday event in Maryland, where Harris and President Joe Biden they appeared on stage together for the first time since the president withdrew from the 2024 election.
Housing and food costs have been some of the biggest economic headaches for the Biden-Harris administration, as Biden has received poor ratings for his handling of the overall economy. White House officials in recent days have highlighted falling inflation, but have also acknowledged that prices for many goods remain too high, creating a disconnect between the strengths of the economy and public sentiment.
“We hear you. The president hears you. The vice president hears you,” Council of Economic Advisers Chairman Jared Bernstein said Wednesday at a White House news conference when asked about Americans who don’t believe the economy is in better shape now than it was when Biden took office.
In her upcoming economic policy speech, Harris will not only discuss her plan to combat high costs, but will also propose a federal ban on price gouging in her policy to address food prices.
