Harris Campaign Announces Targeting by Foreign Hackers

by times news cr

Days after Donald Trump’s campaign claimed it had been hacked by Iran, Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris’ campaign revealed it had been targeted by foreign hackers.

“In July, the campaign’s legal and security teams notified the FBI that we were the target of an influence operation by foreign actors,” a Harris campaign official told AFP.

“We have strong cybersecurity measures in place, and we are not aware of any security breaches of our systems resulting from these efforts,” he added.

The campaign did not provide any indication of the foreign entity believed to be behind the attempt, but said it was still in contact with the authorities.

The US State Department warned Iran on Monday of the consequences of any interference in the US elections, following the Trump campaign’s announcement that it had been hacked.

The Trump campaign accused Iran on Saturday of being behind the hacking and distribution of documents to media outlets related to background checks on Republican vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance. The campaign warned the media against using the documents, saying such work would serve “America’s enemies.”

The tone of the campaign was different from that of 2016, when Trump expressed at a news conference his hope that Russia would “find” Hillary Clinton’s emails, comments that were seen as encouraging Moscow to carry out further hacks of his rival.

US intelligence concluded that Russia interfered in the 2016 election to support Trump, but he rejected this finding.
