British Daily Mail reports hours after “children had affair with female elementary school teacher”
Before marriage, Harris and Biden were already known as Vice Presidents
Doug Emhoff, husband of Vice President Kamala Harris, admitted on Tuesday that he had an extramarital affair during his first marriage years before he met Harris.
Emhoff’s response came just hours after the British Daily Mail reported Emhoff’s affair.
As the presidential race between Harris and former President Donald Trump heats up, Emhoff’s past extramarital affairs are seen as a swift response to prevent them from becoming negative news.
The Daily Mail reported on the 3rd that Emhoff had a relationship with a female teacher at Willow Community School, a private elementary school in Culver City, California, where his children attended, about 15 years ago.
Emhoff, then an entertainment lawyer, was married to Kirsten, a film producer, and they had two children.
The Emhoffs divorced in 2009, and Emhoff met Harris in 2013 and married the following year.
“Kirsten and I went through some difficult times because of my behavior during our first marriage,” Emhoff said in a statement. “I took responsibility and we have since worked through our issues as a family and have become stronger in the process.”
The Biden campaign knew about this before nominating Harris for vice president in 2020, the Times reported, citing anonymous sources. Harris also knew about the affair before she married Emhoff, the sources said.
The woman, who currently lives on Long Island, did not respond to questions about the matter, the Times reported.
Emhoff said he and his ex-wife called each other friends even after their divorce, and that Harris and his ex-wife Curtis, whom he called co-parents of their children, worked together to raise the children.
Curtis recently came to Harris’s defense after former President Donald Trump’s running mate, Ohio Republican Sen. J.D. Vance, called Harris a “childless cat lady.”
Curtis also said on the 3rd that her husband’s infidelity was not the only reason for her divorce.
“Doug and I decided to end our marriage many years ago for a variety of reasons,” he said. “He’s a great father to my kids and a great friend to me.”
“I am so proud of the warm and supportive blended family that Doug Kamala and I have created together,” he said.
Ella, his ex-wife’s daughter, also denied the claims on social media, saying, “How can you say you don’t have children when you have my younger brother Cole and me, our cute siblings?”
