Vice President Kamala Harris, the new Democratic challenger, has narrowed the gap with Donald Trump significantly, sparking enthusiasm among Democrats and attracting new audiences, according to a new poll published in the Wall Street Journal.

The latest pre-election poll shows former President Donald Trump and Kamala Harris in a dead heat, with Trump taking 49% of the vote to Harris’s 47%. That’s within the 3.1% margin of error, making it a virtual dead heat. Earlier this month, Trump held a six-point lead over Joe Biden, signaling a significant shift in the political landscape.

The poll shows that Harris has gained growing support among nonwhite voters, increasing her share to 63%, compared with Biden’s 51%. That demographic shift could make a difference in racially and ethnically diverse states like Arizona, Nevada, Georgia and North Carolina, where Biden has had relatively low support.

Harris is also gaining ground among younger voters under 30, another improvement over Biden’s support in that age group. Harris’s entry into the presidential race has sparked a new surge of enthusiasm among Democratic voters: While only 37% of Democratic voters were enthusiastic about the campaign in early July, that figure has now risen to 81%.

Democratic pollster Mike Buchian, who conducted the survey with Republican pollster David Lee, said, “It’s an incredible turnaround.” Such a surge in support and enthusiasm among Democratic voters could have a significant impact on the outcome of the upcoming election.

Earlier, Cursor wrote that Trump lashed out at Harris after her meeting with Netanyahu.
