As Democratic presidential candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris continues to rise in the U.S. presidential election, Harris’s Korean-American connections are becoming a hot topic.

For example, Dr. Judy Lee, wife of Andrew Emhoff, the younger brother of Vice President Harris’s husband, attorney Doug Emhoff, is a Korean-American. Vice President Harris also mentioned Dr. Lee during President Yoon Seok-yeol’s state visit to the U.S. in April last year. In her luncheon toast speech at the time, Vice President Harris said, “There are nearly 2 million Korean-Americans in the U.S. today,” and “My sister-in-law, Dr. Judy Lee, is also here with me today, a member of my family.”

Dr. Lee’s children, Jasper and Arden, also appeared on stage on the third day of the Democratic National Convention on the 21st (local time). “Harris is our big mom,” Jasper said. “No one is as busy as our big mom, but she always makes time for her family.” Arden said, “She will be a president who takes care of all of us.”

Vice President Harris also mentioned Rep. Andy Kim, the first Korean-American female member of the House of Representatives, along with Rep. Marilyn Strickland, Rep. Young Kim, and Rep. Michelle Park Steel during President Yoon’s state visit. Rep. Kim is the first Korean-American running for the U.S. Senate and was a speech praising Vice President Harris at the Democratic National Convention.
