A recent poll revealed Vice President Kamala Harris tied with former President Donald Trump in North Carolina, the state he won twice in the US presidential elections.

The polls were conducted by RealClearPolitics, an American polling website, and highlighted by Newsweek magazine.

Democrats last won North Carolina in the presidential elections in 2008, when former President Barack Obama won it as part of his landslide victory.

Although Republicans have won the last three elections, North Carolina is still seen as a potentially competitive state, where the margins remain close.

In the 2020 elections, Trump won the state with a margin of 1.3 percentage points, as he received 49.9 percent, compared to 48.6 percent of his Democratic rival at the time, who was crowned president, Joe Biden.

But RealClearPolitics polling totals show North Carolina is “tied,” and Harris and Trump have a nearly equal chance of winning the November election.

Although Republicans have won North Carolina in recent presidential races, the state is controlled by a Democrat, Roy Cooper, who will retire at the end of this year.
