The British royal family has already had to cope with several blows of fate this year. Now another one follows: Lord Robert Fellowes has died.

The year so far has not been easy for the British royals: First, King Charles III made his cancer diagnosis public, then Princess Kate followed suit with the announcement of her diagnosis. But that’s not all: Lord Robert Fellowes, the uncle of Prince William and Prince Harry, has died at the age of 82. This is reported by the British “Daily Mail”, further details are not yet known.

Lord Robert Fellowes – brother-in-law of Princess Diana – was a close confidant of Queen Elizabeth II and stood by her during some of the most challenging times of her life. He served as her key adviser between 1990 and 1999, a period marked by the divorces of three of her children and the tragic death of Princess Diana, who died in a car crash in 1997 after she and her partner Dodi Al-Fayed were followed by paparazzi.

Lord Robert Fellowes was born in Sandringham in 1941. His father, Sir William “Billy” Fellowes, was estate manager there from 1936 to 1964, and his mother, Jane Fellowes, was the daughter of Brigadier General Algernon Ferguson, the then High Sheriff of Northamptonshire. Robert Fellowes served in the army from 1960 to 1963.

In 1978, he married Lady Jane Spencer, the older sister of Princess Diana. After the accidental death of the latter, Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed claimed that Lord Robert Fellowes was involved in a conspiracy to murder his son Dodi and Princess Diana. He has always vehemently denied these allegations.
