Shivamogga: Six people have been arrested in connection with the murder of Bajrang Dal activist Harsha in Shivamogga, Karnataka. Police said all those arrested had previously had criminal backgrounds. A total of 12 people were taken into custody. Three of the six arrested were directly involved in the murder. All were between the ages of 20 and 22, police said. SP Lakshmi Prasad said the motive for the murder was not yet clear.

The ban on the murder in Shivamogga has been extended till Friday. About 5,000 people attended Harsha’s funeral. Police lathicharged him following the call. Harsha, a Bajrang Dal leader, was killed by a mob on Sunday night. Then came the tension.

Earlier, Karnataka Home Minister Araga Gyanendra had denied allegations that the controversy over the hijab was behind the killings. However, Minister KS Eshwarappa and Union Minister Sobha Karanthlaja came forward to allege conspiracy in the incident.

There are indications that 12 campus front activists were taken into custody. Harsha, a native of Sigahatti in Shivamogga, was hacked to death by a mob on Sunday evening. Harsha, who was standing near a petrol pump in Kamath, was hacked to death by the mob. According to police, five people were directly involved in Harsha’s murder. Police arrested Qasim, Syed and Nadeem. Two are absconding. The search for them is intense.

According to police, Harsha, who was an active member of the Bajrang Dal, had received several threatening messages in the past. The police investigation had found that Harsha was in constant conflict with another group in the area during the Bajrang Dal rallies.

Bajrang Dal activists are still protesting in Shivamogga. However, the police intervened and dismissed them. Tensions continue in Shivamogga. A section of shops were pelted with stones. The attack took place. Schools and colleges in Shivamogga are closed. The area is still under heavy police guard.
