Harvard Business Publishing Education has published an analysis on the transformation of El Salvador under the administration of Nayib Bukele, pointing out how the country has gone from being known for its high rate of violence to becoming a benchmark for development and peace.
According to the study, Bukele’s strategy seeks to take the country from a “red ocean” of violence and instability to a “blue ocean” of sustainable growth and prosperity.
El Salvador, once dubbed the “homicide capital of the world,” is now positioned as a world-class tourist destination, attracting surfers and, in turn, foreign investors.
The use of bitcoin as legal tender has strengthened this image, contributing to economic growth and the reduction of insecurity with the eradication of gangs.
Despite international criticism, the strategy has received strong support from the population, who re-elected Bukele with 84% of the votes in the 2024 elections, reflecting confidence in his model of change.
