Harvest, 5-10% drop in grape harvest in Italy. Batosta France

2021 for Italy will be a year of decline in terms of grape harvesting. Estimates speak of a drop of 5-10% compared to the previous year. There harvest – reads the Sole 24 Ore – will start with Lombardy, with Franciacorta and Oltrepò among its high production areas. In the Region, a drop in the harvest is expected a little higher than the national average, a decrease of 15% is estimated. The causes of this decrease are due to the climate, above all the fault is attributable to the spring frosts which have actually slowed down the development of the vineyards.

But the 2021 harvest will go even worse in France. The collapse of the crop is even estimated at 25-30%, a level defined as “historically low”. This should allow Italy to take first place, despite the decline, among the countries with the highest wine production in the world.
