Chandigarh: BJP has placed its bet on Sunil Sangwan for Dadri assembly seat in Charkhi Dadri district of Haryana. Before the elections, Sunil Sangwan was the jailer of Bhondsi district jail in Gurugram. Before this, he was the superintendent of many jails in Haryana. Sunil Sangwan was the jail superintendent of Rohtak’s Sunaria jail in which Ram Rahim is lodged. Now he is contesting elections on BJP ticket from Dadri seat. He has given the slogan ‘Jeete Hain Dil-Jeetenge Dadri’ in his election campaign. Sunil Sangwan is the son of Satpal Sangwan, who was a minister in the governments of Bansi Lal and Bhupendra Hooda. He became MLA from Charkhi Dadri in 1996. After this, he was the cooperative minister in the Hooda government in 2009. Congress has placed its bet on well-educated Dr. Manisha Sangwan against Sunil Sangwan. Former MLA Rajdeep Phogat is contesting from JJP.

Dadri seat is in the headlines after heavyweight Sunil Sangwan became the BJP candidate. In the 2019 elections, BJP had bet on wrestler Babita Phogat to make lotus bloom here, but she came third by getting 24 thousand votes, then former minister and Sunil Sangwan’s father Satpal Sangwan left Congress and contested from JJP. He got 29,577 votes but independent Somveer Sangwan emerged victorious. He defeated Satpal Sangpal Sangwan by 14 votes. After this, the equations have changed on this seat of Charkhi Dadri. Somveer Sangwan is now with Congress candidate Dr. Manisha Sangwan, while Satpal Sangwan is not in the electoral fray this time. He has fielded his son Sunil Sangwan.
