– Tomorrow the European Olympic qualifying tournament starts in Baku. How do you assess the level of preparation of the team?
– Everything is fine. All possibilities have been created on the part of the federation. All that remains is for the athletes to perform well.
– 2 wrestlers were approved in all weight categories. What did you pay attention to when choosing the composition?
– The selection was made based on both the latest results and performance at the training camp. We chose the one who is the best so that the result is good.
– Can we say that we are performing with the most optimal lineup at the tournament?
– The most optimal, the best team has been assembled. We gave the best athletes a chance. This is both Baku and a licensed tournament. This is not a test competition to test anyone. This is one of the two most important competitions before the Olympic Games.
– Which weight category are you most hopeful for?
– All 4 weight categories are able to obtain a license. We expect good results from everyone.
– Nikhat Mammadli and Beka Kandelaki performed successfully at the last European Championship. Can we say that they have a better chance of winning licenses?
– Nikhat and Beka have quite strong rivals. I’m not saying that they are weak, but there are still very strong athletes in their weight category in Europe. I think it will be difficult to get a license in all weights.
– What is the main task for the team?
– The Federation has no such requirement. They and we try to do our best. There was no requirement to win 4 out of 4 licenses. Everyone understands the importance of their work. They try their best. We know what we’re doing. We will strive for the best, even if this is not required.
– Many European countries do not have a license for Paris 2024. Do you think this will create additional difficulties for our fighters?
– Of course, this will cause difficulties. In Europe it has become more difficult to obtain a license, there is more competition. The strongest wrestlers in almost all weight categories do not have a license. We will try to achieve a good result and prepare for the Olympic Games.
