Tehran: Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had warned Hezbollah leader Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah to flee Lebanon days before he was killed in an Israeli strike. However, Nasrallah ignored Khamenei’s warning and paid the price with his life. Iranian officials have given this information. Now Khamenei has expressed concern about Israeli infiltration among senior government officials of Iran.
Khamenei had sent a messenger, he was killed
A senior Iranian official said that immediately after the September 17 attack on Hezbollah’s pager, Khamenei sent a message with an envoy to the Hezbollah Secretary General requesting him to leave Iran. It cited intelligence reports that Israel had identified operatives within Hezbollah and were planning to kill them. The official said the messenger was Brigadier General Abbas Nilforoushan, a senior commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, who was with Nasrallah in his bunker when they were hit by Israeli bombs and also killed.
Khamenei is hiding due to fear of Israel
A senior Iranian official said Khamenei had been living in a secure location inside Iran since Saturday. He personally ordered a volley of about 200 missiles on Israel on Tuesday. The Revolutionary Guards said in a statement that the attack was revenge for the deaths of Nasrallah and Nilforoushan. The statement also cited the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniya in Tehran in July and Israeli attacks on Lebanon. Israel has not claimed responsibility for Haniya’s death.
Israel destroyed Hezbollah
Israel launched a “limited” ground offensive against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon on Tuesday. Nasrallah’s killing followed two weeks of precision Israeli strikes. During these attacks Israel destroyed more than half of Hezbollah’s weapons stores. In addition, half of Hezbollah’s leadership council was eliminated and its top military command was killed.
