Alappuzha: A 10-year-old boy who chanted hate slogans during a Popular Front rally in Alappuzha has been subjected to counseling. The child was counseled at the Ernakulam General Hospital with the help of Childline. Childline said it would provide follow-up counseling if needed. Counseling for parents is also being considered, officials said.

The boy had said that he had called himself and that it was not a slogan given by anyone. The boy said he heard the slogan when he went to a protest rally against the NRC and memorized it.

Meanwhile, four people, including the child’s father, have been arrested in connection with the hate speech case. They will be produced in court today. The boy’s father Ashkar, Popular Front of India Palluruthy division officials Shameer and Sudhir and Maradu division secretary Niaz were arrested.

The boy and his family, who were absconding after the police registered a case against them for chanting hate slogans, returned to their house in Palluruthy, Kochi on Saturday morning. The boy’s father was later taken into police custody.

Police may also arrest more Popular Front activists, including those who chanted slogans. The High Court had also demanded that strong action be taken against the organizers in the slogan call.
