Alappuzha: The child was subjected to counseling in the incident where a hateful slogan was chanted during a Popular Front rally in Alappuzha. The child was counseled at the Ernakulam General Hospital with the help of Childline. Childline said it will provide follow-up counseling if needed. Counseling for parents is also being considered, officials said. The 10-year-old said the slogan was not taught by anyone and was learned by listening while attending events.

Four people, including the boy’s father, were arrested yesterday for chanting hate slogans. The arrest was registered by the Alappuzha South police. The boy’s father Ashkar, Popular Front of India Palluruthy division officials Shameer and Sudhir and Maradu division secretary Niaz were arrested. They will be produced before a magistrate today. Askar Muzaffar, the father of a child, was taken into custody by the police for chanting hateful slogans at his house in Palluruthy, Thopumpady, Kochi. The 10-year-old and his parents reached their house in Palluruthy this morning. Despite the arrest of Popular Front activists, police were unable to reach the 10-year-old. As soon as he reached home, Askar Muzaffar spoke to the media.

Following the media reports, Palluruthy police reached the house and took Askar into custody. After reaching the station, Askar was handed over to the Cherthala police. According to police, Askar was arrested when PFI activists told him that he had surrendered. Popular Front of India activists staged a protest in Palluruthy against Askar’s custody.
