In 2002, paleontologists Eric Buffetaut, Dan Grigorescu, and Zoltan Csiki published the discovery in Transylvania of a giant flying species, Hatzegopteryx, that lived 65 million years ago. Although only part of a skull and a humerus (and perhaps a fragment of a femur) have been found, from the size of the remains it has been estimated that Hatzegopteryx had a wingspan of about forty feet. It was a four-legged animal, with a long neck and a huge beak. It fed like a stork, taking small dinosaurs and other prey from the ground.
