The neighborhood is still in shock. A 62-year-old man died this Sunday late afternoon in the explosion in his house in Wintzfelden (Haut-Rhin), report our colleagues at L’Alsace and of France Blue.

The explosion reportedly took place around 5:45 p.m., in a street located in the center of this hamlet. The detonation was heard several kilometers around, specifies L’Alsace. Firefighters, dog teams, emergency doctors from Smur as well as the gendarmerie were mobilized.

A presence of ammunition in the home?

The only occupant of this house, a 62-year-old man, was initially reported missing. His lifeless body was eventually found in the rubble later that evening. Around 7 p.m., the occupants of homes located within a 100 m radius of the explosion were evacuated. They were taken care of by the municipality.

For the moment, the causes of the explosion are not yet known, but several hypotheses have been raised. According to BFMTVthe presence of ammunition in the home could be the cause of this tragedy.
