Haval decided to raise prices for Russian-made cars by 40-50%

by time news

The Chinese automaker Haval raises prices for cars assembled in Russia by one and a half times. Kommersant writes about this with reference to the price list formed by the company. It is noted that prices for the Haval lineup increase by 950,000-980,000 rubles, or by 40-50%.

Last week, prices for Haval models already shipped to dealers rose by 20%, sources said. In general, this is in line with the increase in prices of other brands. According to one of the interlocutors of the newspaper, a 50% increase will occur if exchange rates remain at current levels for another week, when the cars are shipped.

The interlocutor of “Kommersant” in Ufa confirmed that Haval cars have risen in price by 50-60%. The Voronezh Haval dealership reported a 50% increase in prices, while the Saratov one announced the suspension of sales and shipments of cars until a new price list is received. Representatives of the Haval dealer in the Crimea noted that new cars of the brand have risen in price by about 40%.

At the same time, the recommended retail prices on the Haval website are not currently indicated for all models. One of the interlocutors of the publication believes that the concern did this deliberately due to frequent revision.

Later, the company’s press service explained that Haval maintains production in Russia, but “due to the high volatility of the situation, prices can change even daily.” “Haval is working to stabilize prices and mitigate these consequences,” the press service noted.

As the Autonews portal reported, over the past few days, the cost of new cars in Russia has been raised by 9 brands at once – Cadillac, Citroen, Hyundai, Genesis, Opel, Renault, Mitsubishi and Suzuki. This is already the second wave of price increases for cars on the Russian market in March: at the beginning of the month, AvtoVAZ, Kia, Lexus, Infiniti and UAZ raised prices. The jump in prices occurred against the backdrop of fluctuations in the ruble exchange rate and a difficult geopolitical situation, due to which a number of manufacturers suspended deliveries of their cars to dealers.

According to the Association of European Businesses (AEB), in February 2022, 114,349 new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles were sold in Russia. This is 4.8% less compared to the same period last year. In February, the decline in sales accelerated – in January they sank by only 3.7%. Deterioration of results in February was shown in the Russian Federation by almost all brands of the mass segment, except for Chinese ones.

Haval, one of the ten best-selling cars in the Russian market, increased sales in February by 65% to 3,569 cars. Purchases of Chery brands also rose, including its sub-brand Cheryexeed, Geely and Changan. Chery cars were sold 2907 units (+45%), Geely – 2188 (+82%), Changan – 472 (+19%).
