Urging the citizens not to stop, the Vilnius City Municipality invites you to replenish the stock of food waste sorting equipment – residents will be able to pick up three more rolls of orange bags each.
“During the first seven months, Vilnius residents already collected 1 thousand 334 tons of food waste, thus separating it from the general flow of municipal waste.
Periodically conducted research on the composition of waste shows that residents who have collected the means for sorting are slowly getting used to the changes,” said Tomas Vaitkevičius, director of the Vilnius County Waste Management Center (VAATC).
Residents of the capital continue to be encouraged to pick up the means for sorting, if they have not already done so. Currently, each household receives a special container and three rolls of orange bags.
The same number of additional rolls can be collected by Vilnius residents who have previously collected the means for sorting – container and bags.
Food waste sorting tools will continue to be distributed at mobile points that will operate near shopping centers, gas stations, and fast food restaurants. Such points travel around all Vilnius wards according to the schedule.
Means for sorting food waste are also regularly distributed in Vilnius large-sized waste collection sites and neighborhoods. Exact locations are indicated on a special map. The measures are free of charge for citizens.
Currently, more than 271 thousand have already been distributed. buckets for sorting food waste.
An address is required
Container buckets and bags intended for sorting can be picked up by every citizen of Vilnius, regardless of whether they have declared their place of residence in the capital or not. When picking up, you need to specify the address of your place of residence in Vilnius.
All organic waste can be thrown into the orange food waste sorting bags – fruit and vegetable peels, peels, unusable food residues, coffee grounds, tea leaves, paper towels, indoor plants.
All of this food waste should be placed in an orange bag and securely tied and disposed of in mixed municipal waste containers.
