Colombo: Having lost power and positions, Sri Lanka’s former president Gotabaya Rajapaksa moved to America with his family. Sources close to him said that he will now live abroad.
The public protested, believing that the Rajapaksa family was responsible for Sri Lanka’s economic crisis. Subsequently, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa resigned.
Protesters entered the Presidential Palace in Colombo last July 9. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who was then president, left there. He fled to the Maldives on July 13 as the popular agitation intensified. The next day he went to Singapore from there. He resigned from the post of president from there.
Gotabaya Rajapaksa stayed in Singapore for about 4 weeks and then went to Thailand.
Although he wanted to go to America, he could not get a visa. As a result, he returned to Sri Lanka on September 3.
Gotabaya Rajapaksa was allocated a Government House in Colombo near the residence of his brother Mahinda Rajapaksa.
In this situation, the Sri Lankan government is actively taking steps to get loans from international organizations and various countries. Countries like China, India and Japan have given a lot of loans to Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lankan government had announced that it had received a loan of US$ 5,100 crore from countries including China. Also, it is negotiating with various countries regarding debt restructuring. The Sri Lankan government is also making efforts to obtain a loan of about 290 million US dollars from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Gotabaya, along with his wife Ayoma Rajapaksa, son Manoj Rajapaksa, daughter-in-law Sevwanthi Rajapaksa and grandson left for America through Katunayake International Airport yesterday morning.
According to reports, Gotabaya has suddenly left Sri Lanka as the president has resigned and his brother Mahinda Rajapaksa is no longer in power.
Sources close to him say that he has also decided to settle in the US when he is out of power. It is said that his close relatives in America are making arrangements for this.
