According to reports, the film has been made on a grand scale combining multiple shooting locations and the use of visual effects. The makers are not skimping on the pre-production work of ‘Kaliyan’. In 2018, the makers released an interesting first look teaser. Kalyan’s camera is handled by Sujith Vasudev. According to reports, Sathyaraj, who gained attention as ‘Katappa’ in Baahubali opposite Prithviraj Sukumaran, will play an important role in the film.
Prithviraj plays the role of Kaliyan, a warrior and confidant of Venad hero Iravikutty Pillai in the film. ‘Kaliyan is envisioned as an epic thriller. This is the first film based on southern folklore of Kerala. Iravikutty Pillai’s epics have been hailed in southern songs and this is one of the stories set in the 17th century Venad Empire,’ said director Mahesh in an interview.
