Civil society persists and signs. After the press release of September 14 where around thirty Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) castigated the decisions of the HCC, there were around forty of them yesterday at a press conference in Ambatonakanga asking the HCC to reconsider his decision to award the interim presidency of the republic to a collegial government and to return power to the Senate.

For CSOs, the Senate President’s renunciation is probably due to pressure because he has always expressed his desire to occupy this position. Collegial government can only be put in place in the event that the President of the Senate stands for election, insist the CSOs who even mention a violation of the Constitution.

Civil society, like many political observers, fear an electoral crisis following these recent decisions of the HCC. It calls on all entities to prevent and avoid a possible crisis.

“To foreign partners and international communities: the Malagasy nation and population needs your assistance but also your integrity during this crucial period. Your assistance should be triggered only if the agreed conditions are respected by the decisions and actions of the government and authorities, because the current situation does not seem to reflect this, even if only the obstruction of freedom of expression and public meeting” declare the CSOs.

“To general law enforcement, you should question your conscience if it is always the protection of the homeland and national sovereignty that dictates your actions. Take your responsibilities in order to stem internal crises and confrontations for the homeland, the Malagasy peoples, including your families and your generations,” they insist.

“We need a President of the Republic worthy of the name, elected in a fair and transparent manner but not following unconstitutional maneuvers or resulting from various pressures” they continue.

Civil society affirms that it is ready to take its responsibilities, dialogue or collaborate with all stakeholders, especially the official presidential candidates, in order to identify inclusive solutions for the best interest of the Nation.
