Patrik, who is now 18, was told by doctors two years ago that he would probably never be able to stand on his feet again. The boy contradicted the doctors, but he needs help for his further medical treatment – the RTL Klub Fókusz program presented Patrik’s case.
At the age of 16, Patrik suffered a serious accident at a birthday party: he slipped by the pool and hit his head, and at that moment his cervical vertebra was also broken.
“When we got to the neurology clinic, the doctor first said that there would be a 15-hour examination, but unfortunately it ended up being one hour. I knew then that there was a big problem. When the doctor came out, he said that we could prepare for the worst, that they could even put Patriko on a ventilator. Together, the treatments, physiotherapy and massages had an extremely slow but clearly positive effect on Patrik’s movements – writes rtl.hu. His family has documented every little success, including the video of him moving his fingers and toes again for the first time.
Patrik has come a long way since then: it became clear which muscles he can move at least partially, they first tried to strengthen them, but they didn’t give up on the inhibited ones either.
The now 18-year-old Patrik defied all odds when he was able to stand on his own two feet, but according to his treating doctors, he still has a lot of work ahead of him to fully recover, reports rtl.hu.
