Gandhinagar Police Station is a 52 year old station. The station started operations on January 26, 1970. The first name was Arpookkara Police Station. The station was renamed Gandhinagar by a 1976 order. It has been 52 years since the Medical College area where the station is located came to be known as Gandhinagar

The area adjoining Kumaranalloor, Arpookkara and Athirampuzha panchayats did not have a specific name. With the arrival of the Medical College here, it was decided to give it a special name. Thus, on October 1, 1969, the area was renamed as Gandhi Nagar.
