Its own… tile in Ioannina is acquired by the Onassis Foundation Shelter, whose people proceeded, according to reliable information, to purchase a building, apparently as a continuation of their decision to have a more stable activity in the cultural development of Ioannina.

The building that was chosen and has already passed into Stegi’s ownership, is the preserved building at 9 Tzavela Street, across from the Hippocratic Medical Center, with the characteristic red color.
This is the so-called Goletsis house, a name given because it was the property of the heirs of Konstantinos Goletsis, which in the past had been used as the seat of the German or Austrian Consulate.
It was built in 1900 and is a typical example of urban architecture using neoclassical elements. It is two-storey, with a covered roof, has a basement, while the well in its yard is a reference point. The quality of its construction places it among the most remarkable examples of urban architecture in Ioannina, however in recent years it has strongly shown signs of wear and tear.
The building has been classified as a Historical Preserved Monument (Government Gazette 642/B/26-8-94). As mentioned in the decision of the then Minister of Culture Thanos Mikroutsikos, the building on Tzavela Street 9, together with the other 39 buildings included in the same decision to designate as historical monuments, “constitute typical examples of local popular architecture with influences from neoclassical standards, which are necessary for saving the historical physiognomy of the city and are remarkable examples of the urban development in the area, important for the study of the history of architecture s”.
The 40 buildings, which are affected by the decision, include the Parlapa house on Frontzou street, many buildings on Anexartisias, Averof and other streets of the historic center of Ioannina, the inn at the junction of Anexartisias and Karaiskaki streets, as well as the Clock!
At the moment no concrete decision has been made regarding the future use of the building, which could well be an administration center of the Ioannina Shelter, given the will to further activity after the embrace of the Plasmata II exhibition, or to be transformed into a cultural space.
What is important for the people of Stegi is, in the first instance, the care and rescue of the building and the elements that surround it, with absolute respect for its historicity. In the second phase, the methods of exploitation will be discussed.
However, Stegi’s decision to proceed with the purchase of a listed building in the city of Ioannina is a move with special symbolism, which confirms what was heard in the press conference by the Foundation’s president Onassis Antonis Papadimitriou and Stegi’s Culture Director Aphrodite Panagiotakou regarding a permanent relationship with Ioannina.
Something that Mrs. Panagiotakou repeated in her interviews, as for example in lifo, saying characteristically: “We didn’t do Plásmata and goodbye. You don’t open up a story like that and then leave a hole bigger than the one that was there before. We with Plásmata started our relationship with Ioannina. Our work does not end here. We see the first sample of our coexistence and this will have a continuation, depending on how the city will welcome us and how it will experience it. That will determine where we go.”
The city opened its arms to Plasmata and Stegi, which was recognized, as evidenced by the move to acquire the listed building.
