BOLZANO. On June 18th, he was stopped in via Novacella by the officers of a police patrol. He, 24 year old Iraqian illegal immigrant in Italy and with a criminal record, was damaging some cars parked in the area and, at the sight of the policemen, he also took it out on them, threatening and insulting them.

Brought with difficulty to the police station, the young man was identified and reported at large. The report was accompanied by a decree of expulsion from the national territory that the police chief of Bolzano, Paul Sartorihe felt he had to sign given the seriousness of the young man’s behavior.

Expulsion that, however, had not been possible to apply, because the young man has international protection status. And so he had returned home within a few hours. Much to the dismay of those who work in via Novacella and the surrounding areas.

The raid of June 18thin fact, was just one of the young man’s countless excesses, which began last February. In recent months, dozens of cars have had their windows shattered: first the damage was done with kicks from scooters, then with one of those chains used to secure bicycles.

The raids are dailybut there is also no shortage of spitting, insults and threats to anyone, mothers with children includedand throwing porphyry cubes at public places – with shopkeepers and unarmed people.

Who lives nearby or in the Ipes building where the boy is staying lives in a constant state of anxiety, some have literally lost sleep. The situation has been reported to Ipes several times, but no answers have yet arrived.

The interventions of the police and the Carabinieri are countless, but the forces of law and order can do very little: every time they leave with the young man, the neighbors tell, “he comes back after a while and the nightmare begins again”.

The situation is no longer sustainable and there is a strong call for help addressed to municipal and provincial administrators, but also to health officials. It seems evident to everyone, in fact, that the boy is suffering from mental illnesses.
