He does not see where the “evil” is. Questioned this Monday by the Spanish daily The world on the occasion of the premiere of his film “Blow of luck”, director Woody Allen spoke about the case of the forced kiss involving Luis Rubiales, and displaying, implicitly, his support for the boss of the Spanish Federation of football, suspended after forcing a kiss on player Jenni Hermoso.

A few minutes after the world title of the Spanish football team, on August 20 in Sydney, Luis Rubiales kissed on the mouth, by surprise, the number 10 Jenni Hermoso, provoking international indignation. He has since been suspended by Fifa for 90 days, while the Spanish Administrative Court for Sport (TAD) opened disciplinary proceedings against him for “serious misconduct”.

A decision that director Woody Allen, himself the subject of sexual assault charges, says he does not understand. “It’s hard to imagine that a person could lose their job and be penalized in this way for a kiss in public”, reacted the 87-year-old filmmaker. “Kissing that footballer was a mistake, but he didn’t burn down a school. He didn’t hide and kiss her in a dark alley. He didn’t rape her, it was just a kiss and she was a friend. What’s wrong with that? »

A case that shakes Spain

The American author came to the Venice Film Festival to present his latest feature film, the 50th of his career, “Coup de Chance”, shot in French – Woody Allen hardly shoots in the United States anymore, the profession having turned him his back after sexual assault accusations by Dylan Farrow, whom he adopted as a child, with his ex-wife Mia Farrow.

The director, who denies the facts and against whom no investigation for sexual assault has succeeded, has nevertheless become for some one of the symbols of sexual violence.

In Spain, the Luis Rubiales affair caused a strong reaction, and this beyond the world of sport. This Monday, the players of the Spanish men’s football team castigated the “unacceptable behavior” of the now suspended boss of their federation.

“Our players have won twice: once on the pitch, and then by teaching the world a lesson, a lesson in equality between men and women,” Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said during a speech in Malaga last Saturday, welcoming the decision of the 23 world champions to no longer wear the jersey of the national team if the direction of the football federation was maintained.
