“He exacerbated tensions”: François Hollande accuses Emmanuel Macron of having “accumulated errors”

by time news

Tensions around the highly contested pension reform are not diminishing in France. Emmanuel Macron’s predecessor, François Hollande was critical of the French government.

Not tender with his successor. François Hollande estimated on BFMTV that Emmanuel Macron and his government have “accumulated errors” about the hot issue in France today: pension reform. “Already, it comes at the worst time (…) in a context of high inflation, necessarily amputated purchasing power and concern because there is a war in Ukraine”, he begins.

“Second error: a content error. When you propose a pension reform that requires effort from those who worked hard and early and nothing from those with the highest incomes, it is also a nonsense”, he then estimated.

In many categories of the population, there is this same anger

Last hiccups, according to Holland: a “method error”, since Macron discussed with LR before negotiating with the unions, and a “communication error” during his interview. “We were expecting the President of the Republic on Tuesday so that he could calm the situation and he exacerbated it with more unpleasant words for the leaders of the CFDT”.

From a more general point of view, Hollande notices a “level of anger and resentment as rarely (he) has experienced”. Lack of “dialogue”, feeling of “injustice”, the former president believes that “it’s a lot”. “In many categories of the population, there is this same anger, this feeling that democracy is not working as it should,” he concludes.
