Richard Lugner died on Monday, August 12th, at the age of 91. The cause of death is not yet known. However, the Viennese native had recently been struggling with health problems. He had to undergo heart surgery in July and was also treated in hospital shortly before his death.
Richard Lugner has been thinking about his death for some time. The property developer has thought carefully about what should happen after his death. He has also planned his funeral ceremony down to the last detail.
As the Austrian portal “oe24” reports, Richard Lugner did not want to be buried in Vienna’s Central Cemetery. Unlike his mother and aunt, he chose the Grinzinger Cemetery in Vienna’s Döbling district for his final resting place. There, “Mörtel”, as the Austrian was known, recently purchased two grave plots for 60 years, on which he had a crypt built. There will be space for several graves – for him, his children Andreas, Alexander, Jacqueline and his wife Simone.
In order to be buried in a crypt, Richard Lugner must be buried in an airtight tin or copper coffin. This way he will not come into contact with soil. According to “oe24”, Richard Lugner has already chosen his gravestone. It will be made of granite and will be Royal Red – this color also adorns the facade of his Lugner City shopping center.
According to a close friend of the building contractor, the funeral service will take place in his favorite church on Kaasgraben in Grinzing. His family is currently busy drawing up a guest list.
