N’Golo Kanté is still not officially an Al-Ittihad player, where he could join Karim Benzema who signed a three-year contract on Tuesday. On Wednesday, an internal source at the Jeddah-based club told AFP that Kanté, 32, had signed a 3-year contract with Al-Ittihad.

According to several media, the salary offered to the winner of the Premier League in 2016 and 2017 (with Leicester then Chelsea) and the Champions League in 2021 (with Chelsea) could reach 100 million euros per year. But the leaders of Al-Ittihad want to have all the guarantees on the physical condition of the 2018 world champion with 53 selections before definitively validating his arrival.

“Kante has signed a binding agreement but not a final contract. We continue to study the results of the medical examinations. He has a long injury history and we want to be careful before signing a huge contract,” an inside club source told AFP on Thursday.

This season, N’Golo Kanté has long been away from the field with Chelsea and the France team. Due to a hamstring injury, he missed the World Cup in Qatar and then suffered several other injuries. Recently, adductor pain has caused him to miss the last four Premier League games.
