TRENTO. The preliminary hearing judge of the Rovereto Court has sentenced him to 12 years in prison Ilir Sehi Zybaconfessed to the murder of his neighbor Mara Fait which occurred on July 28, 2023 in Noriglio, a hamlet of Rovereto.
The judge, recognising the mitigating circumstances and the reduction of the sentence by one third for the abbreviated ritehas also arranged a provisional sum of 100 thousand euros to the mother and the same amount to the son of the woman, in addition to the expulsion of Shehi from the national territory once he has served his sentence.
The crime took place near the building where the victim and Shehi lived. The two neighbors had been arguing for years. The man, an Albanian national, had repeatedly hit Fait, a former nurse at the Santa Maria del Carmine hospital in Rovereto, on the head with an axe to chop woodHe then turned himself in at the nearby Carabinieri barracks.
The Rovereto Public Prosecutor’s Office had initially charged the man with voluntary homicide aggravated by futile motives. The aggravating circumstance, which would not have allowed for a summary trial, was not considered to exist by the judge, however, and the prosecution was invited to reformulate the scope of the charge to voluntary homicide. If he does not appeal, Shehi could benefit from the double reduction in sentence provided for by the Cartabia reform, with a reduction of the sentence to ten years in prison.
