As you may recall, Adv. Asi Piso was recently appointed to represent the family on behalf of the SNA (Assistance to the Dead) project of the Ministry of Justice.

The policeman was brought to court under heavy security, where he said he decided to shoot the ground in the hope that it would deter and that he did not intend to kill Taka. The policeman added that he was going through a very difficult period.

The officer was unable to formulate a version

As you may recall, last January, the first hearing in the cross-examination against the police officer accused of killing the late Salomon Taka took place.

The accused officer claimed throughout the interrogation that he shot because he felt life-threatening and that his family was with him. He even claimed that if he had not been in the company of his family, he would have behaved differently – “giving a sprint and running away”, as he puts it. In addition, during the DIP investigation, he claimed that he had previously been in the role of police officer in situations where his life was in danger, but he never fired.

When asked about this today by the State Attorney in the cross-examination, he claimed and even repeated several times that even if his family had not been there and was in the same situation, he would have shot. Again reversed his version and claimed there was no shooting.

The officer further said in the cross-examination that the purpose of the shooting he carried out was to warn the boys and keep them away and that he did not intend to harm any of them.

“Why didn’t you shoot in the air?”

The officer was asked by Adv. Ronen Yitzhaki: “Why did you not fire in the air that this is the procedure of the Israel Police?
His response was: “Because I was afraid the ball would fall and hit an innocent person, because we are in an urban area there is a park and there are houses around and there was a birthday in the park as well.” said.

“It’s more dangerous to shoot in the air, the bullet could penetrate a house window and hit a child or an elderly person, or others in the park. If God forbid the bullet in the air would hit the innocent conscience it would not let me sleep at nights.

Judge Zayed Fallah asked: “Does your conscience hurt you that your ball in the late Salomon Taka?”
“Absolutely yes,” he replied.

“How is the conscience different from harming someone you do not know and the late Taka boy?”
“He posed a threat to me,” the officer replied.
