Juan Pablo Hermosilla, attorney for his brother Luis, argued against the preventive detention requested by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in the Audios case. The case involves alleged bribery of public officials and money laundering.
Attorney Luis Hermosilla testified for the second consecutive day at the Prosecutor’s Office. He claimed that the preventive detention request was inappropriate, urging the authorities to review the investigation file first.
“I cannot disclose the specifics of the formalization, but I believe, as we have previously stated, that there were serious mistakes made in this case. Apologies were even issued at the time for some of the comments made.”
The jurist expressed his opinion that there was no evidence justifying preventive detention, but he declined to elaborate further until the investigation file was reviewed.
The case originated in November of last year when news outlet Ciper leaked an audio recording of a meeting where Luis Hermosilla allegedly discussed bribing officials from the Financial Market Commission (CMF) and the Internal Revenue Service (SII) to gain insider information in favor of Factop, a company owned by the Sauer brothers.
Hermosilla argued that, despite his brother’s words in the recording, he is innocent of the crimes he is accused of. He maintained that his brother may have made inappropriate statements but did not actually commit the offenses.
