The Vratsa District Court amended two remand measures “detention in custody” and confirmed a third of those accused of participating in an organized criminal group for the distribution of drugs, the judicial institution announced. The three cases were initiated at the request of the defendants with the initials D.D., Z.I. and A.D.
According to the ruling, D.D. remains in custody. The court considers that the request to change his measure of remand “in custody” to a lighter one is unfounded. The reason is that the accusations that he is complicit in the crimes he is accused of have not been refuted, and there is a real danger that he will commit a new crime.
The measures of the other two – Z.I. and A.D. were replaced by the lighter “house arrest” due to the reduced danger of future criminal behavior of the accused, their supposed lower position in the hierarchy of the criminal structure and the data from personal character, concerning health problems, are also indicated by the District Court – Vratsa.
The three decisions of the District Court – Vratsa are not final and can be appealed and protested within the statutory period before the Court of Appeal – Sofia.
It is recalled that for all three defendants these are successive requests to change their measures. In the case of the previous applications, the measures were confirmed by both the Vratsa District Court and the Sofia Court of Appeal. The men are accused of participating in a criminal group created for the purpose of distributing narcotic substances in Vratsa and other settlements in the district between 2020 and January 25, 2024, BTA reported.
In the course of the pre-trial proceedings, sufficient evidence was collected, according to which the organized criminal group was engaged in the production of synthetic opiate, known as “smoking tea” and “herb”, as well as in the distribution of various types of narcotic substances on the territory of the district Vratsa.
