Jackson and his accomplices searched the streets of Hollywood for “valuable” French bulldogs. They kidnapped two of the singer’s three dogs by coincidence

From our correspondent
NEW YORK — Twenty-one years in prison for shooting Lady Gaga’s “dog walker” and kidnapping her French bulldogs. It is the sentence decided by a Los Angeles court for James Howard Jackson, who plea bargained the sentence which included the charge of attempted murder.

Coincidence

Authorities have concluded that when Jackson and his two accomplices attacked the “dog sitter” who was walking the two animals last year, they did not know that they were the singer’s dogs: it would have been a coincidence.

Thousands of dollars

On February 24, 2021, the three men drove around Hollywood, West Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley – according to the prosecutor’s office – “in search of French bulldogs”, which can be worth thousands of dollars. They came across Ryan Fischer with the star’s three dogs near the famous Sunset Boulevard. They jumped out of the car, hit and tried to choke the dogsitter, then Jackson pulled his gun and fired. The three assailants escaped with two of the bulldogs — Koji and Gustav.

However, a video camera in front of the entrance to a nearby house recorded Fischer screaming: “Oh my God! They shot me!” and “Help me!” and “I’m bleeding from my chest.” Later, the man called the violence “a near-death experience” in his social media posts.

The reward

The French bulldogs were returned a few days later by a woman, Jennifer McBride who was having an affair with one of the accomplices, Harold White, and she too was charged. Together with the other accomplice, Lafayette Whaley, they await the verdict, expected next year. White’s son Jaylin was also in the car: the couple allegedly tried to help him avoid arrest after the shooting. Lady Gaga had offered a reward of 500 thousand dollars “without having to answer questions” in order to be reunited with her bulldogs. Jackson had been accidentally released earlier this year, due to a bureaucratic error, and then re-arrested five months later.
