Tomas Karlsson is a fan of orienteering competitions. At the beginning of April he was in a forest near the town of Alingsås, not far from Gothenburg in southern Sweden, to develop a route on a map and as he passed he noticed something strange. “They looked like pieces of metal, at first glance I thought it was a lamp,” he said. When he bent down to get a better look, he noticed that there were collars and other objects.

He warned authorities who warned archaeologists from the University of Gothenburg. A quick excavation made it possible to discover a small treasure dating back to the Bronze Age. There are about fifty objects in various state of conservation dating back to between 500 and 750 BC. C. They were almost on the surface, perhaps unearthed by some animal.
Of a woman of high rank
The researchers found rings, collars, bracelets, terracotta objects, anklets, clasps for clothes. “Most of these objects may have belonged to a high-ranking woman of that period,” said Johan Ling, professor of archeology at the University of Gothenburg. “They looked new, at first I thought of fakes,” added Karlsson. Instead he had found a treasure, even if only archaeological.
