A criminal case for the illegal promotion of foreigners abroad was filed against a 46-year-old man, who was arrested early this morning in the area of Thesprotia by police officers of the Igoumenitsa Security Sub-Directorate.
After a police check carried out in a rented I.X.E. car, with a 46-year-old driver, it was found that there were five more Syrians in it, whom, as it turned out, he had picked up on Wednesday afternoon from Athens, in order to take them to the Greek-Albanian border, which they would then cross illegally. His final destination was Germany, where upon arrival they would pay sums of money ranging from 2,500 to 4,000 euros through an unofficial money transfer system.
As part of the investigations, the car, an amount of 200 euros and a mobile phone were confiscated. A preliminary investigation into the case was conducted by the Igoumenitsa Security Directorate.
