Juan was arrested this morning after wounding his partner and allegedly killing his daughter with a gun in Otero, a small town in Toledo with about 500 inhabitants. The deceased was 17 years old and her mother was transferred by a mobile ICU to a medical helicopter, which airlifted her to the 12 de Octubre Hospital in Madrid.
The alleged perpetrators, Juan, 45, and Maria, 36, had been living together for a short time in Juan’s house on Plaza Street, next to the town hall. He was the girl’s stepfather. Ana Isabel Labrado, mayor and owner of a bar on the same street where they lived, has been a witness. “I went down to open the bar at seven o’clock and I saw the couple arguing. We called the Civil Guard and later, for about half an hour, voices and gunfire were heard. I went out to the door and I have seen him come out with a cloth or towel wrapped around his head shouting that they have opened it.. “They ran off and he followed them with his car, a white Renault,” he told the ABC.
Shortly after, “we heard gunshots again and a little while later his partner, the girl’s mother, came into the bar and lay on the floor asking for help. She was shot in the gut, in the chest. And she told us that her daughter was injured, she didn’t know if she was dead or not, and she asked us to help her.”
While the mayor and a customer went to look for the girl, others looked after the mother and called 112. “When we reached the nearby street, we found him dead on the ground with a bullet injury in his head.”Isabel said.
The alleged perpetrator of the incidents was later arrested, apparently from around the nearby town of Santa Olalla, but it has not been revealed whether the murder weapon has been found.
The couple and the deceased minor are of the gypsy ethnicity. The mother had reported violent incidents on three occasions with previous partners, but none with Juan, as other sources have confirmed to ABC.
