New Delhi: Whenever you look at the cricket record list, you will find that the players of big teams have a one-sided dominance. However, the situation has changed a bit in the last two-three years. Now players from smaller teams have also started coming up in the list. Some even have world records to their names. Now just look at Oman’s star pacer Bilal Khan. He created history by becoming the world’s fastest bowler to take 100 wickets in ODIs. The 37-year-old left-arm medium pacer born in Peshawar achieved this feat during the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 match played between Oman and Namibia in Dundee.

Bilal dismissed three batsmen for 50 runs in his quota of 10 overs. With the help of these three wickets, he took his wicket count to 101 in 49 ODIs. In this way, he has surpassed the world record of star Pakistani pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi of dismissing 100 batsmen in 51 ODIs. This figure is only for fast bowling, but in this way, a player from a team like Oman is making a big presence in world cricket.

Fastest bowler to take 100 wickets in ODIs

  • Bilal Khan (Oman): 49
  • Shaheen Shah Afridi (Pakistan): 51
  • Mitchell Starc (Australia): 52
  • Shane Bond (New Zealand): 54
  • Mustafizur Rahman (Bangladesh): 54

Shaheen Afridi’s world record could not last even for a year
It is noteworthy that Shaheen achieved this feat during the ODI World Cup 2023 match played between Pakistan and Bangladesh in Kolkata on 31 October. However, the record for the fastest 100 batsmen to be dismissed in ODIs is held by Nepal spinner Sandeep Lamichhane, who achieved this feat in his 42nd match and is followed by Afghanistan star Rashid Khan, who needed 44 ODIs for 100 wickets.

Bilal is now third on the list, followed by Shaheen (51 ODIs) and Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc (52 ODIs). Bilal is the first bowler from his country to take 100 or more wickets in ODIs. Apart from 101 wickets in 49 ODIs, he also has 110 wickets in 79 T20 matches played so far.
