Ahmedabad: KL Rahul opened the innings for India along with captain Rohit Sharma in the first two Tests of the Test series against Australia. Despite his excellent form in ODIs and T20Is, Shubman Gill did not get a place in the playing eleven. But Rahul, who is in poor form, has been criticized for giving him a chance again and again.
After Rahul failed in the first two Tests, Gill got an opportunity in the third Test in Indore. Although he failed to shine on the spin pitch in Indore, it is Gill who leads the Indian resistance with a half-century in the fourth Test in Ahmedabad.
After watching Gill’s performance, former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar predicted that Gill can easily score 8000-10000 runs in Tests. Gavaskar said during his commentary on Star Sports that Gill, who is quick to recognize the bowler’s line and length, gets more time to play each ball.

The way he gets forward when playing defensive shots and uses a straight bat when playing against Mitchell Starc is beautiful. It shows his confidence. He has good defense not only on the back foot but also on the front foot. A good Test batsman needs not only attack but good defence. Gavaskar also said that Gill can easily score 8000-10000 runs in Tests if he takes his career in the right direction.
Gill scored the sixth half-century of his career in the Ahmedabad cricket test against Australia. The 23-year-old Gill is one of the rare Indian batsmen who has scored a century in both ODIs and T20Is apart from Tests.
