The Israeli government claims that its armed forces have withdrawn from the city of Jenin, located in the occupied West Bank, after carrying out a brutal two-day military incursion that left at least twelve Palestinians dead in the city. and one in the city of Ramallah, as well as many wounded. This was Israel’s worst attack on the West Bank in the last 20 years. Thousands of people participate this Wednesday in a funeral procession for the victims. The mayor of Jenin lamented the situation, said the UN had “failed” them and accused Israel of committing war crimes. The attack came after Israel carried out deadly military attacks for more than a year. These were the words spoken while the military operation was still underway by an elderly Jenin resident who was injured.

Hussein Zeidan: “[Las fuerzas armadas israelíes] they are attacking unarmed people. They are using planes and missiles. This is not supposed to happen at camp. […] No one is safe in the camp. They dug in the camp with bulldozers. Because? What did the people in the camp do?”

Meanwhile, Israel launched airstrikes on Gaza on Wednesday in response to rocket fire from the besieged territory where thousands of Palestinians live.

On Tuesday, Israel’s National Security Minister, the far-right Itamar Ben-Gvir, called on civilians to carry firearms after the city of Tel Aviv was the scene of an attack, claimed by the Hamas organization, in in which a man charged into a group of pedestrians and then attacked them with a knife. At least eight people were injured during the incident.

On Sunday, Israel announced it will buy another 25 Lockheed Martin F-35 stealth fighter jets from the United States, bringing its arsenal of aircraft to 75. The deal will be financed by US military aid to Israel.
