“Health systems like the one we have today were dedicated to producing so that the business would work for them; but health cannot be understood as a business. And that is why the transformation of this model is urgent.” This was reiterated by the National Superintendent of Health, Luis Carlos Leal Angarita, this Friday, during the XXI Congress Action for the Health of All, organized by the Colombian Association of State Social Enterprises and Public Hospitals, ACESI and Fundasuperior Integral Group SAS, in Cartagena.
In addition to insisting on the need to transform the health system by promoting reform, the official highlighted the efforts that the National Government is making to strengthen the public hospital network and to popularize dignified and timely care for all Colombians.
The Superintendent also referred to his recent visit to the district of El Salado, where he was able to see the serious shortcomings suffered by communities that, until now, had been forgotten, and he called on the country to understand that the right to health can no longer be considered a luxury.

“The EPSs ask us for money, but it is a system where the resources are not controlled. Last year we gave $81 billion and we do not know what happened to that money. We discovered that some of these companies paid rent to their own clinics, administrative expenses increased, they do not pay their obligations to public hospitals, but they do pay their own,” said Guillermo Osorio.
“These companies have disappeared for various reasons, some have been liquidated and others have left the market, leaving a number of outstanding debts. What we have seen is that these entities do not meet the three fundamental requirements, which are reserves, capital and equity,” said the official.
