Health confirms second death from influenza this year in Goiás

The State Department of Health of Goiás (SES) reported yesterday, 7, the second death resulting from Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SRAG) this year caused by Influenza B. The victim lived in Goiânia and was aged between 10 and 19 years. The first death recorded in February this year was of a child aged between 0 and two years.

According to SES-GO, so far, 71 confirmed cases of SARS have been registered across the state. Faced with the increase in SARS cases, the Ministry opted to anticipate the vaccination campaign against Influenza throughout the state. Therefore, priority groups can now get vaccinated until May 31st.

The Superintendent of Health Surveillance at SES-GO, Flúvia Amorim, highlights the importance of all people in the priority groups taking the dose that prevents influenza. The disease virus, as she says, is quite incident at this time of year. Influenza is a disease that can get worse for Srag, lead to hospitalization and, not infrequently, cause death.

The Influenza Vaccination Campaign is carried out throughout the country. The action aims to immunize, against this disease, at least 90% of the people who make up the priority groups. In Goiás, the target population is 2,581,286 people. There will be no scheduling by priority groups.

All people from eligible groups can go to one of the 965 posts installed in the State during any vaccination period – D-Day, when there is a call and state mobilization, is scheduled to take place on May 6th.

Eligible groups include: people aged 60 or over, health workers, pregnant women, puerperal women, indigenous people, children aged 6 months to 6 years, teachers, people with comorbidities, public transport workers, port workers, security forces professionals and rescue and the Armed Forces, servants of the prison system, the population deprived of freedom and adolescents who are serving socio-educational measures.
